Dental Anxiety

People are anxious about going to the dentist for different reasons like worrying about the effectiveness of localized anesthetic, feeling like the dentist is rushed, concern about pain, cost of the procedure, past experiences, and even the sterile smell of the dental office.

At Dove, we work with you to help reduce anxiety before you even step foot in the dental office. Our office staff has been thoroughly trained on how to deliver excellent patient services. You will be informed about what to expect and all of your questions will be answered to help ensure your confidence and comfort during your visit.

How Dove helps reduce Your Dental Anxiety

The waiting room will be neat and clean. Magazines and dental health information will be available for reading. Other distractions include televisions, music and virtual reality glasses that can used during your procedure. For children, there will be a play area to keep them busy and distracted while waiting.

How You can help reduce Dental Anxiety

Try to interrupt your normal day's routine. This can help relieve overall general anxiety. Make sure that you ask all questions - knowledge can be the greatest defense against anxiety. Before the appointment, avoid caffeine, eat high-protein foods which produce a calming effect unlike sugary foods. Plan to focus on breathing during the procedure at a regular and slow pace - when nervous we tend to hold our breath which decreases oxygen levels and further increases feelings of panic.

Appointment not necessary for people in pain.
