Flouride
Flouride
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element that prevents tooth decay when ingested during tooth development and topically when applied to erupted teeth.
Water fluoridation is the adjustment of the natural fluoride concentration of fluoride-deficient water to the level recommended for optimal dental health. Fluoride in the water ranges from 0.7 to 1.2 parts per million. This range effectively reduces tooth decay while minimizing the occurrence of dental fluorosis.
FACT:
Fluoride is present in water as "ions" or electrically charged atoms. These ions are the same whether acquired by water as it seeps through rocks and sand or added to the water supply under carefully controlled conditions.
