Orthodontic (Phase Two) Treatment:
Today, braces
are viewed more as a fashion statement! Due to
more
subtle wires, brackets and a rainbow of coloured elastic bands,
the
acceptance of braces has grown. Elastic ties help hold
the wire on the brackets and can be switched
every few weeks when your child goes for an adjustment. Many
children enjoy picking out new colour combinations and often
choose a scheme to reflect an upcoming holiday, event or even their
sports team colours.
Improved
technology now provides faster results with less discomfort
making braces an important tool in oral health for kids. Braces
can be used to correct conditions like crooked teeth or a misaligned
bite. Since improperly aligned teeth may pose cosmetic concerns
and be hard
to clean encouraging decay or gum disease, it is advised
that every child receive an orthodontic evaluation by the age of
seven. If treatment is required, eight or nine is a good age to
begin because facial bones are still growing and will make it
easier to shape the bite.
Braces usually require 1 1/2 or two years to straighten teeth and teeth
will also be whitened during the process.
